Took the train to Stralsund and taxi to our hotel. We were down graded due to high numbers of tourists and busy hotel?! We were supposed to get an apt but got a room instead. It was fine, we had plenty of room and a great view of the old town too. The hotel couldn’t do enough to make up for the change in circumstance. We got complimentary dinner and breakfast and a bottle of wine! Now if only they could sort our the heat in the whole hotel, but that’s another story 🤪

When we headed out to explore the town we saw the reason it was so busy. There was a 17th century festival on which takes pace yearly. Lots of people were dressed in traditional garb and there was a big fun fair on the quays. In the main market square there were stalls selling jewelry and handmade goods and there were stage shows and musical performances too. We sat and had a drink and people watched for a while, there was a great atmosphere and the square looked it would have been back in the day.
The next day after one more go on the bumper cars we headed to the Oceanarium. There were lots of fish tanks interspersed with information about the Baltic Sea. On the roof we saw some Humboldt penguins.
Then we had another wander around town and stopped for a nice lunch overlooking the harbour, it was a lovely town and nice to sit and take it all in for a while. Last stop was for just one more Eis and then back to the hotel to get the bags. We didn’t head for the train station this time but the ferry port….
